After reading many articles, I came up with a hypothesis. Those learning Torah are not doing enough chesed. Sometimes, they fill themselves up with hatred throwing rocks (which are mukzte) on Shabbos at people who are perceived as not religious (some of them are really not religious).
I remember a few protests that I attended in Israel. I was just 15 years old attending a Yeshiva high school.
Most of the protests I attended were against the Arab murderers that were blowing up the buses.
One protest was against a group of Jews who were sinning. Originally, I attended the protest on the Yeshiva side, but when I saw the senseless hatred, I switched sides in the middle, and I yelled at my own friends.
My friends left, but there were other people who didn't know me. They got me in a scuffle.
Eventually, a few people from both sides got together and started to sing Kumzitz songs. You could say the protest ended in a good note (no pun intended).
Most of these protests don't end this way.
The biggest culprits of the lack of chesed comes from the mo'etzes rabbis of the Agudath Israel. They teach their Yeshiva students to only learn Torah, and nothing else.
The same mo'etzes rabbis of Agudath Israel are ignoring a great need for them to come out strong against lesbian Christine Quinn. The rabbis are not doing that.
Rabbis who are spiritually responsible for their silence during this years important mayoral election.
As Failed Messiah noted, it could be a mitzvah to fight against the Palestinian Arabs. Such a mitzvah is deemed as chessed. Since the rabbis are not encouraging their students to perform more chessed, God is forcing those students to perform chessed in the army.
